NEW YORK -- So much stuff happened, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon lost track. Buck Johnson Jersey . Especially after he got ejected. "How many innings was that?" he wondered. Wil Myers and the Rays broke loose in the 14th inning while holding Derek Jeter to the worst hitting performance of his career, outlasting the New York Yankees for a wild 10-5 win that ended at 12:57 a.m. Saturday. Jeter went 0 for 7 for the first time and grounded out with the bases loaded to finish the 13th. Yankee Stadium was nearly empty when the game finally ended after 5 hours, 49 minutes. "I dont even remember the first four of them," said Jeter, eighth on baseballs career hits list. "Its one of those days, know what I mean? Some days when you think youve seen it all, theres something new." The late innings indeed saw a bit of everything: Rallies by both teams, a wild rundown featuring seven throws and two calls overturned. "It was a crazy game," Maddon said. The Rays also spent time trading gloves when they went to a five-man infield in the 13th. The switching positions led to a most strange putout: Brett Gardner grounded out and it was officially scored as 3-9 -- first baseman Sean Rodriguez to the right fielder, Myers. During a meeting on the mound to realign everyone, the Rays offered a little advice to Myers. "We just told him to catch it if it comes to you," winning pitcher Heath Bell. Myers got three of the Rays 20 hits, and put them ahead 6-5 against Chris Leroux (0-1). Rodriguez doubled home a run, setting up RBI singles by Brandon Guyer, Yunel Escobar and Ryan Hanigan. Bell (1-1) dodged all sorts of trouble, pitching 2 1-3 scoreless innings for the win. "There were so many unlikely things that we were able to work through," Maddon said. Desmond Jennings homered as the Rays matched a season best with a three-game winning streak. The string started with a day-night doubleheader sweep Thursday in Boston, and led into another full day of play. Brian McCann homered as New York lost its third straight in Joe Girardis 1,000th regular-season game as manager. Jacoby Ellsbury lined a tying single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth for the Yankees. In the 12th, Tampa Bay turned a wild double play that included a pair of rundowns. Alfonso Soriano grounded out with runners at second and third to finish the inning. In the 11th, Yankees pinch-hitter Ichiro Suzuki grounded out with two on. Ellsburys RBI single with two outs in the ninth off Juan Carlos Oviedo made it 5-all. Fans were still cheering when Brandon Gomes relieved and before even throwing a pitch, he tried a pickoff at first base -- Maddon challenged the safe call and was right, and Ellsbury was ruled out. Maddon got steamed when a flipped call resulted in a double play against the Rays in the 13th, and he was tossed. Mark Teixeira and Soriano hit consecutive homers in the eighth off Joel Peralta that tied it at 4. Tampa Bay bounced back in the ninth, taking a 5-4 lead on Evan Longorias RBI single against closer David Robertson. Maddon said before the game that closer Grant Balfour wasnt available after posting saves in both ends of the sweep in Boston. Oviedo was trying for his first save since he had 36 in 2011 with the Marlins while playing under the name of Leo Nunez. NOTES: Yankees RHP Masahiro Tanaka (3-0, 2.27 ERA) starts Saturday vs. RHP Jake Odorizzi (1-3, 6.85). Tanaka has won 31 straight regular-season decisions dating to 2012 in Japan. Asked how hes done so far during his first year in the majors, Tanaka said in English "so-so." Girardi chuckled at that assessment, saying with a grin: "I think hes done pretty good." Maddon said he was eager to see the much-heralded, $155 million rookie, adding, "He drives a 787 to New York City from Tokyo." Kiddingly, Maddon noted how he takes an RV to spring training. ... Girardi is 579-421 in regular-season games with New York. Dikembe Mutombo Jersey . - Loosening up for their first training camp practice, the Miami Dolphins high-stepped sideways up and down the field while House of Pains song "Jump Around" blared on the loudspeakers. Chandler Parsons Jersey . Aaron Hill and Cliff Pennington hit home runs in the first inning for the Diamondbacks, who beat the Miami Marlins 3-2 on Friday night. https://www.cheaprocketsonline.com/997z-mike-newlin-jersey-rockets.html . It was just business as usual for the Thunder at home. Durant scored 32 points and the Thunder beat the Bulls 107-95 on Thursday night for their eighth straight win. Each week, The Reporters put their thumbs out to the good and the bad in the world of sports. This week, they discuss the mistakes in the recently-filed concussion lawsuit, Jaroslav Halaks unwillingness to play his fomer team, Ryan Smyth and what he meant to Edmonton and Canada, and the new, civilized way managers and umpires argue with each other. Bruce Arthur, National Post My thumb is up to proofreading, especially when you happen to be filing a class-action lawsuit that pertains to concussions. The suit filed this week against the NHL on behalf of a group that included a small group of former players, including Michael Peluso and Dan Lacouture, was the second of its kind in hockey, and wont be the last. And it probably didnt help the cause by misspelling Sidney Crosbys name, citing movies like “Friday the 13th” and “Mystery, Alaska”, and declaring Gordie Howe dead. Look, we know what brain trauma does to people, now. In sports, what leagues knew and when they knew it is important, because if information was concealed, that could be monstrous. Now, Im not a lawyer, but if youre looking for answers, maybe start by not killing Gordie Howe. Steve Simmons, SUN Media My thumb is down to Jaroslav Halak, for basically opting out of playing goal against his former team, the St. Louis Blues. This is a hard one to completely understand and there is more than one version of the story. But the way I understand it, the Washington Capitals picked up the goalie at the trade deadline for the express purpose of trying to help them get in the playoffs. Yet he told his coach, Adam Oates, that he wasnt comfortable playing against the Blues, the team that just traded him away. Not commfortable? Isnt the athletes favourite game the one against his former team with all his friends? Isnt that what a goalie signs up for? The odd part in all this, without Halak the Capitals beat the Blues Tuesday night and still managed to miss the playoffs. John Lucas II Jersey. . Michael Farber, Sports Illustrated My thumb is up to Ryan Smyth, who announced his retirement Friday. He was not the greatest Oiler, obviously, but he was as much of an Edmonton-standard bearer in his era as Wayne Gretzky and Mark Messier were in theirs. Smyth was not conspicuously skilled, but he stood for old-time hockey values - and he stood in front of the net, the source of most of his 386 goals. He was steadfast in commitment to country, playing in eight World Championships and two Olympics. Captain Canada, indeed. But Smyth spent 15 of 19 NHL seasons in copper and blue. He belongs to Edmonton. The rest of the country was lucky it could borrow him. Dave Hodge, TSN My thumb is down to baseball fans who say they miss the loud-cursing, dirt-kicking, arm-waving, near-spitting, face to face arguments between managers and umpires. Those have been replaced this season by civilized conversations that the managers deem necessary while they wait for dugout advice on replay challenges. We have enough fits of temper and rage in this world that they dont have to come in the form of phony sports entertainment. The managers look better when they act older than five, the umpires are deserving of respect and this way, bad calls can actually be corrected. Its all quite civilized, which, Abner Doubleday intended, I believe. If, indeed, Doubleday was baseballs inventor. There are other claims, but lets not fight about that, either. ' ' '
